The primary function of a vessel Combat Management System (CMS) is the control of weapon and sensor systems for typically Electronic Warfare (EW), Anti Air Warfare (AAW), Anti Surface Warfare (ASuW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Mine Warfare, Strike Warfare, Amphibious Warfare and Helicopter Landings.
In contrast, CHAKA, applied as Joint Tactical Command, Control, Computer and Communication Support System (JTC4SS), is typically a CTG (Commander Task Group) tool. The JTC4SS supports the CTG and other levels of command in applying vessels as Joint Operations assets during operations or exercises also involving non-combatant vessels without CMS capabilities, Marines, Special Forces, and other force structures, typically as illustrated below:
